Archive vs. Trash vs. delete

What each action does and how recovery works.

01

Archive

Moves messages out of the inbox but keeps them in your account. Archived mail remains searchable and can be moved back.

02

Trash

Moves messages to your provider’s Trash folder, where the provider’s own retention rules apply, typically recoverable for a limited period.

03

Delete

Removes messages subject to your provider’s rules. Depending on the provider and folder, deletion may be permanent.

Where your provider supports it, recent actions can be reviewed and reversed. Recoverability ultimately depends on the provider’s own retention behavior.

Prune never deletes emails without your explicit permission.
